Philippa is an experienced legal practitioner, having been admitted to practice in 1983, after graduating in law from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws.

Philippa has worked in both the government sector and in private practice.

In the Public sector, she managed the intake team initially and then had overarching responsibility for the teams which assisted the regulator charged with the statutory responsibility for supervising the conduct of legal practitioners, enquiring into complaints and other conduct concerns and instituting disciplinary proceedings . In her role with the regulator she was responsible also for introducing a triage process to enable a more efficient mechanism for the disposition of matters. Further she collaborated with the team managers to curate and implement an internal legal staff training program. She also presented seminars by invitation to the profession on a range of ethical issues. She introduced an initiative of arranging mentors to assist practitioners experiencing temporary difficulties in practice and assisted in implementing a risk profile to alert practitioners to particular areas of concern to assist them in reducing exposure to a risk eventuating.

In the private sector Philippa worked primarily in mid-tier firms for over a period of 20 years including in the roles of partner and consultant.
