As part of our ongoing partnership with the Women in Defence Association (WiDA) as a Bronze Partner, Bennett was delighted to host WiDA WA’s Meet the Future, Meet the Leader member event on Thursday 13 August, at our Perth office.
The evening brought together students, emerging professionals and senior leaders from across defence for an engaging discussion focused on career pathways, leadership, professional growth and the opportunities available within the industry.
A diverse panel shared their career journeys, lessons learned and practical advice, creating a valuable platform for knowledge-sharing, connection and mentorship.
The panel explored:
- How students can start preparing for a career in defence
- Building networks, experience and skills before graduation
- How early-career professionals can proactively create opportunities and navigate their career pathways
- Leadership, professional growth and career development
- Reflections from senior leaders on what they would do differently if they were starting their careers again
The event was moderated by Bennett Principal and Defence Co-Lead Shemali Samaraweera and featured an impressive lineup of women from across the defence industry:
- The Hon. Linda Reynolds CSC – Former Australian Senator and Minister for Defence
- Ashley Schneider – Chief Safety, Engineering and Assurance Officer, H&B Defence
- Taylor Odishoo – Systems Engineer, Sunfish Robotics

- Siena Hamilton – Mechatronic Engineering and Computer Science Student Representative, Curtin Defence Industry Orientation Program & Operations Lead, Curtin Robotics Club Drone Team
