Jonathan has extensive experience in complex commercial transactions, with a focus on SMEs, agribusiness, contracts, property and trusts.

Jonathan routinely provides corporate relationship advice to assist clients to better understand and where appropriate improve their business, company and trust affairs.

Jonathan is an accomplished legal draftsperson. He has experience preparing a wide variety of complex commercial documents including:

  • Sale and purchase agreements of all kinds,
  • Shareholder and unitholder agreements,
  • Agribusiness documents,
  • Terms of credit and terms of business documents,
  • Leases and related documents,
  • Partnership agreements,
  • Settlement deeds,
  • Loan Agreements and Mortgages, and
  • Trust documents.

Jonathan comes from a farming family and has a particular interest in agribusiness. From 2008 to 2015 he managed a vibrant regional practice and he worked extensively with farming and fishing clients during that time. Jonathan has a comprehensive understanding of the structures used in the operation of farming and fishing businesses and is alive to the commercial interests and concerns of primary producers generally. He also has particular succession planning expertise in the agricultural sector.

Jonathan is proficient in the realm of trusts (discretionary and otherwise). He is adept at taking complicated and abstract trust concepts and making them accessible to clients. Jonathan routinely reviews trust documents and implements remedial action to repair any identified flaws.

Jonathan’s practice history includes significant estate planning and probate and administration components. He provides succession planning advice to high-net-worth clients with complex financial and/or business arrangements.

Jonathan was admitted to practice in 2006. He has an eye for detail and a comfortable manner with clients. His extracurricular interests primarily comprise cycling and playing his guitar.
