On Monday 22 April 2024, Bennett sponsored the Notre Dame Law Students’ Society (NDLSS) Senior Moot Grand Final competition.
The Senior Mooting Competition is one of the most well-known and prestigious competitions in the Notre Dame Law School. The NDLSS offers the Senior Mooting Competition to students in the later stages of their degree. This competition allows for more experienced students to show the knowledge and skills they have obtained throughout their studies.
The 2023 grand final winner and runner-up of the Senior Moot were selected to go to the ALSA, an annual national law competition and progressed to the semi-finals placing fourth in the country.
Congratulations to the winner, Alicia Dharani and runner-up, Elizabeth McKenzie for achieving a successful ruling for the Appellants, handed down by our esteemed Bennett Moot Court Judges.
Thank you to the Notre Dame Law Students’ Society (NDLSS) Mooting Representative Levern Reiners, Vice President Penelope Dwyer and our judges for the evening, Principals Amy Rumble and Mark MacLennan, Principal Associate Nilan Ekanayake, and our Judges Associate, Associate Thomas Coltrona.
The judges heard spirited arguments from all participants as to how commonwealth public servants should act, and be dismissed, in light of the constitutional implied freedom of political communication and public service legislation.
All competitors were subject to inquisitive questioning from the judging panel and strict time constraints in order to make their argument. Competitors also had to craft answers to their opponents’ arguments on the fly to provide responsive submissions.
Guests were invited to enjoy drinks and canapes following the conclusion of the formalities.
