Significant decisions
Mighty River’s challenge to the validity of a “holding” Deed of Company Arrangement was successfully opposed by Bennett's client Mineral Resources Limited.
In the Rayney v The State of Western Australia defamation trial, Bennett successfully obtained for Mr Rayney a damages award totalling $1,777,235. This remains the second largest defamation payout ever awarded in Australia.
Dr Jemma Green, co-founder and chairperson of Power Ledger, was awarded damages in the sum of $400,000 in her defamation proceedings against Fairfax Media Publications and one of its lead journalists for an article published in the Financial Review.
